Why I wrote "Choice Words"
“Choice Words” is a collection of monologues, written in the voices of the women and girls who are profoundly affected by the effort to curb reproductive freedom and abortion rights. I had been thinking about this play for a while, but after learning the Supreme Court planned to overturn Roe v. Wade, this project took on sudden urgency. In a surge of creative energy, I wrote a dozen monologues in just 9 weeks. The final play which represents a spectrum of voices is composed of 13 monologues. A condensed version was presented at the 2023 San Diego International Fringe Festival.
